Dodekanese

The Dodecanese are a group of islands in the Aegean Sea, southeast of mainland Greece, consisting of over 150 islands, of which 26 are inhabited. The most famous island in the group is Rhodes, known for its rich history, beautiful beaches, and the ancient wonder of the Colossus of Rhodes. The Dodecanese officially became part of Greece in 1947, after being under Italian rule. The island group is known for its unique architectural blend of medieval, Ottoman, and Italian styles, reflecting its complex historical past.
